Join us on Monday April 21 at 6:00pm!
THEA is home to the San Jacinto River Coalition, a community-driven group fighting for the cleanup of the San Jacinto River Waste Pits Superfund Site. These pits contain highly toxic dioxins linked to cancer, reproductive harm, and autoimmune diseases. In response to local health concerns, THEA requested the Texas Department of State Health Services perform a cancer assessment for the communities in the floodplain of the San Jacinto River. The state agency assessed 29 types of cancer and identified abnormally high rates of leukemia, lymphoma, lung and bronchus cancer, and cervical cancer.
In response to the area being designated a cancer cluster, we will host a series of informational meetings. Protecting our waterways and health starts with informed action—join us to make a difference.
